DOC-02: Follow one main-track lesson from start to end

medium prioritySimulator or real robotabout 90 minDocs and lessons

  • Your robot needs: any robot.
  • Starter bots that fit: goBILDA starter bot, REV DUO starter bot, AndyMark Robits starter bot, Studica starter bot.
  • Library version: v0.16.0 or newer.
  • The docs it tests: Tutorials.

Why

Each lesson builds on your own robot, a few lines at a time. We check our lessons on our robots; yours will show where a lesson assumes something about the robot that is not true for you.

Safety

  • Follow the lesson's own safety notes ("Check it on the robot"). Low power for the first runs.

Setup

  • Lessons before it done (the lesson says which).
  • Pick the lesson your team needs next (1 to 9).

Steps

  1. Write the lesson number. Start a timer.
  2. Read the lesson top to bottom once without changing code.
  3. Do it: make each change in your own five files, as the lesson says.
  4. Do its "Try it in the simulator" part, then its "Check it on the robot" part.
  5. Each time you are stuck for more than 2 minutes, write the section and the words.
  6. Stop the timer when its last check passes.

Pass rule

Every check in the lesson's "Check it on the robot" (or simulator) part passes (all of them, for example 5 of 5), and the time is within 2 times what the lessons page says.

Record

Write these down while you test. The report form has them as a list to fill in.

  • lesson number, time it took (minutes)
  • each place you got stuck (section and words)
  • any code in the lesson that did not build (copy the error)
  • what your robot has that the lesson robot does not (or the other way round)

If your robot is different

The lessons explain with example robots (the lesson robot, the kit bots, the turret robot). Write what you had to change because your robot is different: that is the most useful part of the report.

Report your result

Pass, fail, or could not run: every result helps. The form opens on GitHub with this test filled in (a free GitHub account is needed). No student names, please.

Report result

No reports for this test yet: yours would be the first. Every test's reports.
